Have you ever watched a movie or tv show and felt that the person portraying your favorite character was the character? This is the feeling we all get when we watch LaKeisha Key take on the life of Gabrielle Harper on In Love There’s War each episode. Though she does not literally live in Gabby’s shoes, she certainly fits them well.
How are you able to relate so well to Gabrielle?
Gabrielle wants to love, care and cherish her relationship with Dewayne but he makes it difficult. He doesn’t treat her as his queen; He doesn’t respect her as his woman. Regardless of his actions Gabrielle still tries to make it work. I have never been married but I have been in a relationship that I’ve tried so hard to make it work and no matter what happened or what I did, it was never good enough. Gabrielle and myself have a soft heart for the men we love and the men in our lives.
Before Gabrielle, what other roles have you played?
I have been a part of 15 stage plays within the Cleveland area. At many different theaters I’ve played many different roles. This is my first experience in a web series and I must say it is totally different than stage plays. In my opinion I think it is more difficult than acting on stage. I must say, acting in a web series is an exciting experience that I want to continue improving in my future.
Why did you choose acting?
I don’t think I chose acting, acting chose me. I say that because I was asked to fill in a two line role in “One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and from then on I was asked to do different roles and I never stopped and through the whole journey, I have enjoyed every minute of it.
So, what’s next for the busy be LaKeisha Key?
Look out for her on Season 2 of In Love There’s War and in the stage play, The Life of Teddy Pendergrass.
In addition to her roles on stage and film, Keisha enjoys singing and parenting her 14 year old son. Ms. Key is a Human Resources Director and a member of her praise team at church in addition to other activities.
